Guide Dogs for the Blind

KGON and Entercom Portland are very lucky to have our own Barb Daschel raising Guide Dogs and including these wonderful puppies in our everyday lives.  Iggy, Tyrus and now Georgeanne are part of the reason we love to come into work!  Iggy (Barb's first pup) is now a Guide Dog and living in Eugene with his new friend Chuck.  Iggy is doing great and has even been back a couple of times for a visit with Chuck to the Entercom building.   Barb's second dog, Tyrus graduated in December and is living in downtown St. Louis with his new owner.  We are very proud of him because he was such a busy puppy and we knew he would do well with some "instruction" in his life.  The current darling doggie is Georgeanne.   We're all hopelessly in love with her.  The picture here is of Ty and his new owner, and Barb and Georgeanne at Ty's graduation.

We love spending the year or so with these dogs before they go to school.  Barb is a very special person and we are glad she is bringing these dogs into our lives.  One of the questions about raising these pups is "how can you devote all this time to them and then let them go?"  It's never easy, but knowing the important work they will do, and how they make a difference in a blind person's life, makes the seperation tolerable.  Plus, if they come back for a visit, that's so great to see how the dogs are doing.

If you would like to know more about the Guide Dog for the Blind program, and especially if you think that raising a pup would be something that would work in your life, or would like to donate please click through to their website http://www.guidedogs.com for more information.  There is a campus very near to us in Boring, Oregon where you can even attend the graduation of the dogs when they pass their classes and go to their owners.

Thanks for reading this.  We're big fans of these dogs!
