2011- Just as the government is about to run out of funds, Congressional Republicans and Democrats craft a last-minute deal to cut $38 billion from the 2011 fiscal budget.
2008 - The Roman Catholic priest accused of stalking Conan O'Brien pleads guilty to two counts of disorderly conduct and is ordered to stay away from the red-haired talk show host for two years.
2006- The Rolling Stones play their first-ever show in mainland China at the Grand Stage Theater in Shanghai.
2004 - National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice testifies that President Bush was warned of suspicious activity by terrorists located in the U-S about a month before the 9/11 attacks occurred. 
2000- Santana performs the Supernatural album in Pasadena, California for a FOX concert special. The performance features many of the album's guests, including Rob Thomas, Everlast and Dave Matthews. The show, which airs in May, will be released on D-V-D.
1994 - An electrician spots the body of Nirvana singer-guitarist Kurt Cobain in a room above the garage of his Seattle home at 8:40 am [PT]. At 7:05 pm, police confirm that it is Cobain. The 27-year-old had killed himself with a 20-gauge shotgun three days earlier.
1986 - Clint Eastwood is elected mayor of Carmel, California.
1974- Elton John's "Bennie and the Jets" is certified gold.
1974- Hank Aaron hits his 715th career home run against the Los Angeles Dodgers, breaking Babe Ruth's record.
1973- Neil Young's Journey Through the Past has its premiere at a film festival in Dallas. Young describes the film, a bunch of scenes and images from his career, as "a collection of thoughts. Every scene meant something to me - although with some of them I can't say what."
1968 - The Beatles' last Capitol Records single, "Lady Madonna," is certified gold..
1967- Buffalo Springfield performs "For What It's Worth" on The Hollywood Palace.
1966- The Beatles record a usable backing track for "Got to Get You Into My Life."
