2007 - Atlantic Records co-founder Ahmet Ertegun is remembered at a private all-star memorial at Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York. Eric Clapton, Crosby Stills Nash and Young, Phil Collins, Genesis, Stevie Nicks, Kid Rock, Bette Midler, Sam Moore and Ben E. King are among the performers at the tribute.
 
2005 - Rush Hour star Chris Tucker is arrested in Georgia for doing 109 miles-per-hour in his 2005
Bentley and failing to stop immediately for troopers.

2002 - Al Hendrix, father of Jimi Hendrix, dies of congestive heart failure in Seattle at age 82.

2002 - Ally McBeal goes off the air after five seasons.
 
1998 - Linda McCartney dies of breast cancer at a family ranch in Tucson, Arizona. She was 56.
 
1993 - Two police officers are convicted in Los Angeles on civil rights charges in the Rodney King beating.
 
1983- Cream producer and Mountain singer-bassist Felix Pappalardi, 44, is shot to death in New York by his wife and songwriting collaborator, Gail Collins.
 
1973 - Pink Floyd receives a gold album for The Dark Side of the Moon. It has since exceeded that modest achievement by more than 15-million copies.
 
1971 - The Doors release "Love Her Madly."
 
1970- Paul McCartney releases his self-titled solo album on Apple. "Maybe I'm Amazed" is a highlight.
 
1970 - Apollo 13 returns safely to Earth.
 
1969- At Winterland in San Francisco, The Band do their first concert as a solo act.
 
1969- In Los Angeles, Sirhan Sirhan is convicted of assassinating Senator Robert F. Kennedy.
 
1964 - The Beatles announce that the title of their first movie, due in the summer, will be A Hard Day's Night. That day, they cut the audio track for a T-V special, Around the Beatles, which had to be lip-synched to meet British music union rules.
 
1964- The Rolling Stones release their self-titled debut album in the UK. When it's released in America on May 30th, the cover will bill them as "England's Newest Hitmakers."
 
1961 - The Bay of Pigs invasion, a disastrously unsuccessful covert attempt by the U-S government to overthrow Fidel Castro in Cuba, takes place.
