2008- Aerosmith's Joe Perry cancels two solo dates to undergo knee surgery.
 
2008- Scott Weiland pleads not guilty to driving under the influence of drugs after his arrest in Los Angeles in November 2007.
 
 
2004 - Martha Stewart is found guilty on all four counts in her obstruction of justice trial.
 
2004 - The National Enquirer reports that 26-year-old Ashton Kutcher is really 30.
 
2002 - The first episode of The Osbournes reality show airs on M-T-V. It goes on to become a national phenomenon.
 
1998- NASA announces that an space craft orbiting the Moon has detected enough water to support a human colony and rocket fueling station.
 
1998 - Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Eileen Collins is named pilot of the shuttle Columbia for a December 1998 mission. She is the first woman to command a U-S space flight.
 
1985- The T-V show Moonlighting, with Bruce Willis and Cybill Shepherd, premieres oin A-B-C.
 
1984 - Quarterback Steve Young signs his first pro football contract-with the Los Angeles Express of the U-S-F-L.
 
1982- John Belushi dies of a drug overdose in the Chateau Marmont Hotel in LA.
 
1974- Gregg Allman's first solo album, Laid Back, is certified gold, fueling rumors that The Allman Brothers Band is breaking up.
 
1973- Ringo Starr begins recording the Ringo album. The future hits "Photograph" and "You're 16" are among the songs completed over the next three weeks.
 
1969- The first issue of Creem magazine hits newsstands.
 
1965- The Mannish Boys, a London band containing David Bowie (under his real name, David Jones), releases its first single, "I Pity the Fool," in the UK.
 
1965 - The Yardbirds release "For Your Love" in the UK, the same day Jeff Beck makes his live debut as the band's lead guitarist. The single, which becomes a Top 10 hit, was the impetus for blue purist Eric Clapton's departure from the band.
 
1956 - The Supreme Court affirms the ban on segregation in public schools.
1955- Elvis Presley makes his T-V debut on The Louisiana Hayride.
