2008 - Rock legends Little Richard and Elvis Presley, and pop icon Michael McDonald are inducted into the Music City Walk of Fame in Nashville.
2006- Veteran 60 Minutes journalist Ed Bradley dies of leukemia at the age of 65.
1997 - Barry Sanders of the Detroit Lions becomes the first player in N-F-L history to rush for over a thousand yards in nine straight seasons. In the same season, Sanders passes former Dallas Cowboy Tony Dorsett for third place on the all-time rushing list.
1989- East Germany opens its borders, allowing citizens to travel freely to West Germany.
1982 - Sugar Ray Leonard retires from boxing. In 1984, he returns to fight one more time before becoming a boxing commentator for N-B-C.
1976- Fleetwood Mac's Mystery to Me and Frank Zappa's Overnite Sensation both receive gold certification.
1973- Billy Joel releases Piano Man.
1973- Cat Stevens makes his national T-V debut with a 90-minute A-B-C In Concert taped at the Hollywood Bowl.
1973- Ringo Starr's Ringo album, featuring "Photograph," "You're 16" and guest appearances by all three other former Beatles, is released in the U-S.
1972 - Chicago get their first gold single -- for "Saturday in the Park."
1970- The Moody Blues' In Search of the Lost Chord becomes their fifth album certified gold during 1970.
1970 - Badfinger releases No Dice in the U-S. The album includes "No Matter What" and the original version of the future Nilsson hit "Without You."
1968- Having been billed as The New Yardbirds from September through mid-October of 1968, Led Zeppelin play their first London show -- and second show overall -- under their new name.
1967- David Crosby is fired from The Byrds.
1967- Rolling Stone magazine publishes its first issue. John Lennon is on the cover.
