2011 - Ronnie Wood's divorce from his wife of 23 years, Jo, is finalized.
2008- C-S-N-Y's film Deja Vu, premieres at and closes the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah. All four members attend.
2008 - Ringo Starr gives a free four-song show at the House of Blues in West Hollywood, California.
2008- Velvet Revolver guitarist Slash reveals to Billboard that singer Scott Weiland will rejoin Stone Temple Pilots for a batch of summer shows.
2006- Motley Crue receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
2006- First Survivor winner Richard Hatch is found guilty of tax evasion in Rhode Island.
2004 - The second Mars rover, the Opportunity, lands on the red planet and sends pictures back to Earth.
2004- Lost in Translation and Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King win Golden Globe awards for, respectively, Best Musical or Comedy and Best Drama.
1999- The Rolling Stones kick off their No Security arena tour at the Oakland Arena.
1995- Johnnie Cochran makes his opening statement for the defense at the O-J Simpson trial.
1984 - Yoko Ono and Sean Ono Lennon visit Liverpool and pledge a gift of 250-thousand pounds to the Strawberry Fields old people's home there.
1983- Former Allman Brothers Band, Gregg Allman Band and Sea Level bassist Lamar Williams dies of Agent Orange-related cancer at 34.
1981 - The 52 Americans who were held hostage by Iran for 444 days arrive back in the U-S and are reunited with their families.
1974 - Steve Miller sings "The Joker" on N-B-C's Midnight Special. Brownsville Station ("Smokin' in the Boys Room") and The James Gang are also on the show.
1971- Grace Slick gives birth to a baby girl (by Jefferson Airplane bandmate Paul Kantner) she initially names god. The child is later called China Kantner.
1971 - Charles Manson and three female followers are convicted of seven murders.
1968 - The Beatles are filmed singing "All Together Now" for the end of the Yellow Submarine movie.
1961 - President Kennedy holds the first presidential news conference carried live on radio and T-V.
1949- The first Emmy Awards takes place in Los Angeles.
1915 - In New York, Alexander Graham Bell speaks to his assistant in San Francisco, inaugurating the first trans-continental telephone service.
