Working at KGON in the late 80's was a big part of my early broadcasting career.  I have great memories from that time in Portland and at KGON.  Playing timeless Rock Classic that were produced when budgets for recording were so high and the psycho acoustics and analog warmth made listening such an enjoyable experience.  Mix that audio Phatness with today’s HD and it is better sounding then ever!  KGON Rocks with a perfect amount of cowbell!

Owsley Stanley dies, March 13th, 2011

If you have no idea who he is, you have not read "The Electric Kool Aid Acid Test" and are probably not a Dead Head. Here's the article from Rolling Stone Magazine. The best quote from the article comes at the end of the story where you find that Owsley has been living off the grid in an Australian rain forest.  He didn't want to talk about himself.  "I'm not into being a celebrity, because I think celebrityhood has no value to anyone, least of all to the celebrity. I've watched wonderful people get destroyed by it." In these days of Charlie Sheen, Li-Lo, Mel Gibson, and whomever else is in the middle of a personal image crisis, I find this so refreshing.  If there ever was a person who could have written a "tell all" biography, it's Owsley.  He's mentioned in other's written biographies, including Mick Fleetwood.   Rest in Peace, and I sure hope the doors of perception and reality have all opened and blended together in a rainbow of colors!
