"The King's Speech" was the big winner at yesterday's Baftas, Britain's Oscars. The story of King George the Sixth's attempt to overcome his stutter picked up seven awards, including best film, best actor and best support actor and actress.
I went to see the movie yesterday afternoon and the theater was almost full for a 1:45 p.m. showing. Now I understand why. It's a really great movie. The acting, the plot (a true story), and the little details were compelling. One of the things I appreciated about it was the "wireless" (radio) equipment in the scenes featuring the BBC. Geeky of me, but very interesting for a person in radio.
The drama also leads the nominees at the Oscars with 12. The Oscar awards will be handed on February 27th.
Now I need to see "True Grit."
