COME ON, GIMME A BREAK!!!!
One Spring Break...comin' up! Plenty of things to keep you busy this week: Road trip to the Coast would be my first pick...Whale Watch Week. Look for signs saying "Whale Watching Spoken Here" to connect with guides, all the way from Ilwaco, WA to Crescent City, CA. And at the end of the week, you can say thanks by volunteering for the Oregon Beach Cleanup.
Blazers at home this week. Brooklyn Nets visit on Wed, Utah Jazz on Fri.
If the weather turns nasty there's always the movies. "On the Road", based on the Jack Kerouac novel, opens.
I'll be spending my Sat at the Spring Fashion Frenzy at Woodburn Co Stores in support of Guide Dogs for the Blind. Thanks to puppy raiser Barb Daschel who shares an office with me here at KGON, over the past couple of years I've been able to witness first hand the wonderful work this organization does. You'll want to be at Woodburn Co stores around 1pm Saturday when GDB's puppy truck arrives from California with a whole new group of recruits.
Special Spring Events goin' on at OR Historical Society and the World Foresty Center Discovery Museum.
Next weekend - the Spring Beer & Wine Festival at the OR Convention Center. You can win tickets to that during My 3 Songs with Iris.
If you're a skier, Mt Hood Meadows has special events all week.
Big Concert on Saturday at the Rose Garden Arena. Bob Seger and Joe Walsh. Live pre-concert party on the air with Iris. You might get lucky and win last-minute tickets to the show.
And, with Easter next weekend - Brunch on Sunday? In a town with so many great restaurants, you should have no problem finding a cool place.
Birthdays to celebrate this week include:
NASCAR driver Danica Patrick; Canadian blues guitarist Jeff Healey; actress Sarah Jessica Parker; Sir Elton John; comedian Martin Short; Aerosmith's Steven Tyler; Andrew Farriss of INXS; co-founder of Monty Python's Flying Circus Eric Idle; guitar god Eric Clapton; Moody Blues drummer Graeme Edge; and actor/director Warren Beatty.
And, finally, GO DUCKS!!! Heading into the Sweet 16 against #1 St. Louis and it's gonna be real sweet when they win!
Keep Rockin,
Glo

Beware the Ides of March!
Ides refers to mid-month on early Roman calendars. March 15th, centuries ago, Julius Caesar was assassinated, so I thought I'd offer up a recipe for a "Bloody Caesar Cocktail", to help you unwind after a long hard week.

6 oz Clamato Juice
1 - 1+1/2 oz vodka (if you don't do alcohol, leave it out)
2 dashes hot sauce
4 dashes Worcestershire sauce
celery salt
freshly ground pepper
lime wedge
1 celery stalk

rim glasses with celery salt & lime
Enjoy!

With St Patrick's Day on Sunday, it should be a good weekend to party. Lots of places in town to celebrate the Irish in ya...See the KGON Club Calendar for a few suggestions. Stay safe and have fun.

david
There's a lot of new music coming out by classic rock artists. The most exciting thing I've seen/heard in the past few weeks is the new David Bowie video and single for "The Stars (Are Out Tonight". Would love to share it with you. Click below and let me know what you think. Enjoy!

Big Week Ahead
Daylight Saving Time is on, and next week Spring officially begins! Yeah! And there's music, music everywhere.
If you're into the blues, on TV  tomorrow night (3/12) at 10pm on PBS  a special concert with Muddy Waters and the Rolling Stones. You might wanna set your DVR so you can watch it multiple times.

This Friday (3/15) you can join the "Tell Mama" CD Release party at the Alberta Rose Theatre. It's an Etta James Tribute featuring some of Portland's finest musicians: Duffy Bishop, Rae Gordon, LaRhonda Steele, Lady Kat with the DK Stewart Sextet.

Lotta birthdays to celebrate this week. Among them: James Taylor, Jack Kerouac, Adam Clayton, Billy Crystal, Bret Michaels, Dee Snider, Ry Cooder, Sly Stone, Phil Lesh, Wolfy Van Halen, Nancy Wilson, John Sebastian, Paul Kantner and Scott Gorham - bit ironic that Gorham, the American guitarist with the Irish band Thin Lizzy was born on St. Patrick's Day! Put on a Thin Lizzy album and crank up the headphones!

Stuff you can win this week on KGON:
Eric Clapton's new CD "Old Sock" on the Bob & Tom show
Tickets to Wishbone Ash at the Aladdin with Iris during My 3 Songs 1 PM hour
Joe Bonamassa tickets with Shannon on This Day In Rock 3:45 PM

Will check in with you later in the week. Enjoy!

Is it March already?
WOW!

Glad daylight savings time starts again next weekend. Sure, we’ll lose an hour’s sleep Saturday night, but it’ll be light an hour later at the end of the day. Spring’s right around the corner. Crocus and daffodils are comin’ up! I’m ready.

And don’t forget at the end of the month, Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band returns to the RGA. One of my all-time favorites, he never disappoints. You can still win tickets on the KGON contest page.

Had an opportunity to speak with Justin Hayward of the Moody Blues about a new solo album, Moody Blues tour plans and even a Moody Blues Cruise. We’ll get that interview posted tomorrow for you to hear.
